How to enjoy a Japanese inn,
and rules you should know

  • ・Guidance to your room
  • The room clerk will guide you to your room. There are some inns which do not have this service.
    There are also inns where customers take their belongings to their room by themselves.

  • ・Remove your shoes
  • At the inn, you should at least remove your shoes when entering the room. There are also inns where you remove your shoes in the entranceway.
  • ・Don't enter the room wearing slippers
  • While in the room do not put on slippers.

  • If you drag heavy belongings on tatami mats, you will leave a scratch. So please don't and be careful.
  • ・The alcoves are not place to relax
  • The alcove is a space to decorate flowers and works of art in order to welcome guests. Do not enter or sit there.

  • The Japanese tea and tea cakes served in your room are free.
